Does CDAX work ?

I was just wondering about this CDAX thing I have seem so much in the news papers these days. It’s a great idea for one who trades a lot. I have done a few trades, but have sadly not made much.

It would be great to always be able to access this all the time and we do always have our phones with us.

Only thing is to do this, I think you need a smart phone. I’m not sure if it just work on a normal java based phone. So I downloaded the application onto my symbian based phone, it’s a nokia 3650 it a smartphone and installed it.

Basically it supports 4 stock firms, Asia Securities, Asha Phillip Securities, Ceylinco Stock Brokers and Lanka Securities. You will have to go to their offices and sign up, not too sure of the rates.

What I’m trying to get at is, they signed up with Dialog which is a great company, then they got 4 big stock firms with them, now my problem is who is doing CDAX ?

If I’m to give access to my investments, I’d like to know my transactions are safe or in other words my money is safe. www.cdax.lk is their site. It’s not something I would be too confident going with. Most of the links on the site don’t work. Some of the terms are not correct.

There is one line “Please download the CDAX Mobile GPRS application software on to your phone from dialog@wap.lk.” you cannot download it from dialog@wap.lk as that is an email address. Shouldn’t it be download it from Dialogs wap site ? I might be wrong, but please correct me. Links that don’t work are – Trade CDAX, in partner details about their partners, and so on.

All I’m saying is, if we are to be safe with our investments, we must know who is doing this and atleast get the basic things working. As this is web based the web site should be perfect. If the web site can’t be done properly, I don’t know how the web application or the mobile application is.

CDAX should get someone to look into this as it will not look too good for their partners.

Has anyone used this ? Please let us know how it is.

Thank You

Changing Places

The company I work for, I’m in the HR side of it. I’m still an assistant to the manager but these are something that’s making our jobs difficult and not allowing our company to progress.

I’m sure this is a problem in most companies.

What I’m talking about is employees who keep changing jobs. For us it’s a big problem these days. It goes on an equal level, 10 leave and 10 want to join. If we could keep the leaving low and the joining high that would be just right.

I know friend of mine who use this trick to jump to higher pays and higher positions. That it fine on the individuals level but it’s not fair to the organisations. It is a big problem for us to hire, to train, and to create workable teams. When a person leaves it starts again, which put a lot of pressure on us, from the higher management.

I advise all those in the recruiting business to look closely into your new employees history. For all you know is, they would work for 3 months, and then leave with all the knowledge you have given them. This is also a trick used by some companies to gain knowledge of their competitor, which is very unethical, but in a country like ours, who cares when leaders don’t know nothing about ethics.

I enjoy working at my company, but every time we have to recreate teams, it sets back the company. It’s great for the leaving employee as they are going for something better, but for all the other employees he leaves behind, they are set back and their futures are threatened.

I would like to know how other companies in Sri Lanka deal with this problem. How do you screen your employees ? Do you also have a lot of jumpers ?

It’s not fair also to bind someone to a company, but maybe it has to be done. Larger companies may be able to do that as they have a large demand but what about the smaller ones ? It’s not fair also to take away a persons opportunity but if a company is to survive drastic actions may be required.

There is this one person I know who went through 5 companies in less than a year, at each new job he got higher pay and a higher position. I was just wondering the companies that recruited him, did they do a background check on him ? how much did they invest in him ? How much did they lose from him, jumping to the next company ? Were they companies he jumped to their competitors or did they take him just to get information about his previous employer ? Who makes these decisions ?

If someone has gone through these same problems at their company if they are not totally trade secrets please share with us, as this is a problem for all our companies in Sri Lanka.

I’ve been with my company for 7 years, it’s the new staff where all these jumpers come from, which for someone who has been an employee for this long, it saddens.

Prolonged surveillance and the acquisition of a hideout outside his private residence at Bullers Road helped the assassins to accomplish their mission – the killing of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar on Friday night.

If the incident bared a serious security lapse in his personal protection arrangements, The Sunday Times learnt that in the aftermath of the shooting matters turned out to be worse. For more than two hours, the Bullers Lane area remained open thus making it easy for the killers to get away.
It was a team of Special Task Force personnel – the commando arm of the Police – who broke into the house opposite, said to belong to Lakshman Thalaiyasingham. When they entered, they first found two large bags meant for carrying cricket gear. They contained food items. One bag bore the name of a national cricketer.

A dash upstairs and into a bedroom revealed a bigger secret – the hideout used by two suspected assassins to position a sniper rifle on a tripod. It was a bedroom. The upper part of a window had been carefully concealed with a piece of cardboard with a hole sufficient for the barrel of the rifle to be aimed towards Mr. Kadirgamar’s swimming pool.

When Mr. Kadirgamar emerged from the pool on Friday night, they took aim through a night vision telescope and pumped three shots – one into the head, one to the chest and the third to the leg. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers thereafter fired a grenade launcher (or a tomba). Though three rounds were fired, none detonated. “Otherwise some members of Mr. Kadirgamar’s escort party would also have been hit,” he said.

The grenade launcher and two grenades were found by the Police near a scrub outside the building. Though the attackers left behind the tripod, they took away the sniper rifle. Hours after the shooting, armed troops and police – backed by search helicopters – launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in Wellawatte and Bambalapitiya areas.

Well, thee fools as most refer to them as are a bunch of useless rats. What do they do ? Nothing! Remember the murder of the police officer which happened recently, what id they do nothing ? Gave their bullcrap and that was it.

These guys are on a holiday. I was told these guys are here to do a job of keeping the peace, mediating, but are they ?

They roam around in their vehicles like big shots, they do nothing but put rubbish. Today I saw the respects given by various leaders, then there was Eriks, his should have not been put there, with great names like Kofi Annan.

I know I’m being harsh, but after what I’ve been hearing, even the the recent death of the policeman, the way these people acted was not acceptable, they are one sided and of no use to the peace process, that this my point of view.

We all have our views.

SLMM says no clear LTTE link to Sri Lanka Minister’s killing
Saturday, August 13, 2005, 13:51 GMT

Aug 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission says that they have so far not found any clear LTTE link to Friday’s killing of Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar. Spokesperson of the SLMM said that amidst media report accusing LTTE for the killing, police is also not coming to a conclusion in this regard.

“Any one can accuse LTTE very easily for this assassination. But we need to find proofs before we accused the LTTE,” spokesperson said.

However, SLMM met this morning to discuss last night killing and decided to hold a comprehensive investigation on this.

“Now it’s very hard to manage both parties after this incident. But it is important to obey the truce agreement,” spokesperson added.
