Mohamed Rishan told a news conference today that the launch of ‘Panora’ branded computers follows 15 months of test marketing and is the long awaited answer to the growing demand for good quality locally developed computers for Sri Lankan users. “While assembled computers play the role of a ‘price fighter’ among cost-conscious buyers, the comparatively more expensive branded computers are known for their reliability and high quality performance. During the test marketing period, ‘Panora’ won the confidence of its users, while parallely gaining acceptance and reputation for its reliability, after sales support and pricing”, he said.“Most of the essential PC components such as motherboard, graphics audio, audio, LAN, power supply, optical storage drive, and casing are pre-assembled, thus allowing users to own reliable systems. This is one of the key features of the ‘Panora’ benefits”, Rishan added.

“Operating on licensed Microsoft XP Professional and XP Home systems, ‘Panora’ will be positioned as a reliable ‘price reliever’ in between Branded and Assembled Systems. It is expected to compete with international and locally branded computer system segments.
The newly launched products have the complete backing of PC House’s 23 branches island-wide backed by a 24-hour Customer Support Division and a fully equipped Engineering Division”, Wimalaratne added.

PC House (Pvt) Ltd recently completed the supply of 3450 nos ‘Panora’ Personal Computer Systems and Power Tree UPS systems to the Education Ministry following the awarding of a Rs. 390 million tender. Together with this was also the supply of 212 nos Epson Printers, Networking (D-link network products and accessories) 212 locations, Microsoft and Redhat Linux installations on each Computer System and the supply of Encyclopedia versions of Brittanica and Encarta. This tender comes under the Secondary Education Modernisation Project (SEMP) funded by the Asian Development Bank.
PC House will also provide value-added latest IT operating software such as Windows XP, Office XP, Visual Studio Net, Front Page Office 2003, Redhat Linux 9.0, Workstation, Star Office 7.0 etc to name few. Coupled with this will also be the latest hardware components such as processors, HDD, memory in order to provide an up-to-date knowledge about the hardware side of a computer.
Managing Director PC House S.H.M. Rishan said that this was one of the largest tenders awarded by the Education Ministry to a single company. “We are particularly happy in that we were able to complete the supply of all items in a record 45 days, ahead of schedule”.

PC House General Manager Saliya Wimalaratne said that these Panora machines will be installed at 212 national schools across the country, including both the North and East and comes under the purview of the Computer Learning Centre project. These Centres are mainly located in rural areas and are part of a new programme initiated by the government to enhance the computer literacy of rural school children.
