These days with all the driving conditions and rules and so on we have taken to cabs. My question is do the meters work properly ? Recently I went in a cab and the meter seemed quite a bit fast. I’ve taken other cabs from the same two locations but most of them don’t really match compared to each other even though the same route was taken.

If you had to recommend a few honest cabs, and not too expensive cabs what would they be ? Would help a lot as I take a lot of cabs now, and even if the meter is fixed arguing with the driver is no use as their bosses are the ones that set them.

If taking a trishaw and your not sure of the rate, I would recommend first calling a cab company ask them the rate for your destination, and then drop that amount by a bit and negotiate the trishaw driver. If you don’t get a good rate you know you can wait some time for a cab or you get a cheaper deal than the cab. This works for me as I’m not too sure of the rates to most locations.

Adios

“In Sri Lanka it is quite common for people to be knocked down by racing vehicles on the pedestrian crossing itself. Here a policeman with some pedestrians are seen crossing the road at Town Hall while the red light is on.”

Caught in the act

I’m glad they published this. These silly cops stop us when it’s red but look up and wait when pedestrians cross while there is a RED man. Well as we see in this, the cops don’t even know how to follow their own rules.

I know there used to be programs on tv educating people who to use these signs/lights and so on but I don’t know if it’s been stopped. They have it started again and also place boards around the streets to educate people and the police on how to use these signs and lights.

We know how people are, if you accidentally hit one of them and even if you are in the right, that doesn’t really count. You were in the vehicle and you are always wrong.

One thing I hate about cops is how they and that is only a small few of them act like real fools on the roads. One time I remember going on baseline this cop jeep as he couldn’t be bothered to drive to the end of the road and turn due to the lane separation, he and his buddies went in the wrong way towards the oncoming traffic to take the take the turn towards the next lane when was further back.

Then the great sirens a friend of once told me this was during the lunch traffic hour a police car stuck in traffic turned their siren on, the friend also conveniently followed then out of the traffic block. Well the went the same way as him, once out of the block the siren went off and they drove a bit further and then stop at some kade for lunch !!! I won’t be surprise if his story was true.

Come on SL Police we don’t hate you, we just hate you when you set the wrong example.

Around how many Sri Lankan’s are fluent in English ? Around how many of them can be understood by us ? The way they speak, is it hard for us to understand ? What chances do they have of entering the foreign market for presenting ?

I was watching the Channel 1 (MTV Sri Lanka) english news in the morning and they have a foreign news caster.

What’s the matter with these people, we have so many capable news casters, why are is this company depriving our talent and giving it to outsiders who have so many more opportunities ?

I know this is a bit harsh, but I’m sure a lot of the capable Sri Lankan news casters who tried for that job who were maybe even more capable must be quite annoyed. Channel 1 must be paying even more to their foreign news casters, plus I’m sure the Sri Lankan public would understand more a local accent compared to a Sri Lankan accent.

Are are the Sri Lankan news casters, presenters and so on going to lose their jobs to foreign presenters, as the companies want to upgrade their staff or standards ?
