I guess stories like this are easier to bring to light, and these in turn can bring more attention to suffering around the country. A 1000 kids die, and in the heart of the city 1 dies and the attention is enormous. Focusing on this will bring more sympathy for others. Or maybe not, it'll just be another story that we heard of and was forgotten.

The pathos of your story is undeniably overt... and I am in no way trying to undermine the tragedy of what happened to Asvini... yet as I read your article, I began to wonder... why does no one write stories... touching little elegies on the children in the North and East... most recently Muttur... who are being bombed and shelled and mortared and killed everyday? Yes maybe we were "provoked" yes maybe "they started it"... but no one can deny that the stories of the children in Muttur are being swept under the carpet.. ignored as unfortunate yet unavoidable civilian casualties. Their stories are probably even more tragic.. stories of parents unable to help their children, lack of medical supplies, cut off from any outside help...It's true about us - the bomb has to explode in our own backyard before we're reminded that YES we have a sitiation.. YES there is a war and YES hundreds of innocent children are dying every day.
