100th Dog Show on Jan 27, 28
Below is the article from Daily news on the 100th Dog Show. Being the Centenary event we would have thought it would have been better organized, but it wasn’t. It was totally disorganized. A few of my friends had, had their dogs in the show. The place was crowded as usual, with so many beautiful dogs.

The organizers for this club poorly handled the whole event. Planned events weren’t held on time, for example some of the morning events were held late in the evening. Some owners do stay their but some of these dogs are not used to being around so many dogs and this is also a hassle for the owners and their dogs, we usually bring our dogs when it’s close to when our even is usually held as my dogs are not too comfortable with all the others dogs around and also the heat. I’m just getting into the dog show thing but have had dogs for many years.

Some of the participants are not told when their events are or if they are taken in and are meant to participate. The committee members also don’t have a clue, they always say hold on and say they’ll get back but never do.

Some of these owners spend a lot of time and money looking after their dog and getting them to a certain level. These events are very important to some of the dog owners and when a club that has been there for so long can’t keep their standard it looks very poorly on them and also it doesn’t help the dog owners much.

Is it fair for committee members to have their dogs in the show ? Could it mean unfair judging towards their pets ? Of course those who would be in the committee would be great dog lovers, with pets who would usually be in these shows but is it fair for them to put their pets in their shows ? There are other shows in the country, and it gives them an opportunity to take part in those but I think it is not fair for their pets to take part. This I brought this up, as one of the key committee members won a big part of the show, when we clearly saw many other dogs that were much better than the one that won. But then again we are not professional dog people but this is how a lot of us would see this, when it’s a key persons dog that wins. Wouldn’t you think ?

There are a few more shows coming up in the year, hope these are organized much better than this one. The ones to come up, are usually better organized. Lets have our fingers crossed and this time I want to enter my dog, hope he wins something 

I hope the CKC will get back to the standard they had some time back.

CONGRATULATIONS! DIG Traffic, Police Department, Colombo Municipal Council and the Road Development Authority for introducing a uniflow system in Colombo after many years.

Uniflow is seen in Fort/ Kandy for over a decade. Uniflow is common in crowded cities of the world where flyovers are not available.

Let’s go a step further. Remove the Center Median. Resurface all Uniflow roads with just 50 MM of Premix rolled down to 30 MM as done in other countries.

In this country Resurface is a big exercise as 200 MM is laid with a very inferior Premix, which corrugates due to heat as the size of Grit is too small and Density is insufficient.

The CMC/RDA officials must observe the road surface of the intelligent world.

Construct busbays on left side making it compulsory for buses to drive in to busbays for loading and unloading without obstructing the uniflow.

Make bus only lanes as in Bangkok keeping sufficient room for a bus to overtake a parked bus in a busbay. Have only two bus stops for one KM stretch of the road.

Install synchronized colour lights for pedestrian crossings overhanging on centre of road that operate on request 2 per Kilometer, 50 Meters away from Bus Stop.

Colour lights must be timed to be Red, sufficient for a person to cross from one side to other briskly. This is how pedestrian lights work in other countries.

All pedestrian colour lights in this country are Red for too long for vehicles and most drivers discard the respect for pedestrian colour light.

Make the diameter of colour lights minimum 25 cm to be visible.

Most colour lights of this country are too small and the brightness is not enough to draw attention. Have colour lights with timers at pedestrian crossings for pedestrians.

Make all vehicle lanes other than bus lanes 1.8 meter.

Keep a sidewalk of minimum two meters on either side of the road to enable pedestrians to walk freely without obstructions jutting out from shops, restaurants tyre / cycle repair shops etc.

Get rid of Lottery booths and small unauthorized set ups on sidewalk. CMC, RDA must be vigilant and free from political interference to keep the sidewalks for pedestrians and not for business.

Enforce no parking of any vehicle inclusive of bicycles on sidewalk.

Have shade trees planted on either side of the road and maintained to grow straight to a minimum height of 16ft above ground and then branch out. Keeping minimum 50 cm breathing space for roots. I have seen MCs of Korea wash the trees and leaves during summer.

Most countries that have winter special grooming of roadside trees are done.

This is how trees are maintained in countries with intelligent officials. Our Local Authorities are famous for cutting down trees planted by the British. Not planting and maintaining.

Let’s make Colombo a better place to live, work, drive, walk and pollution free.

TISSA

Sri Lanka 5:16 am

The food used to be great there, but now it’s going way down in quality. The place was always packed, still is, but I don’t think it would be for much longer, prices have gone up and quality has gone down. Hope they do it up, as this is one place you can have a beer all day long.
I was wondering how come cricket club gets to serve alcohol all day long and all other places can’t ? Someone told me as a foreigner is running the place, they get go on a different license and establishment class, but I don’t believe that. Is it that an additional amount can be paid to have it possible to serve all day long or is there something else.
Well I just wondered as when I was on holiday in Lanka for Christmas holidays that was the only place I knew other than the hotels that served during the day, but I guess you just have to pay an additional fee and they allow.
What’s would be another place which has food like cricket club used to, to go and eat at ? I liked the burgers there.

Dear Victims & Public,

The whole story started with an article (Attachment01) which was published in the Sunday Leader news Paper dated November 5th , 2006 about the Institutes of Technological Studies (ITS) and the American University of Asia (AUA) which was an affiliated university.

It’s true that AUA was closed in 1998, hence ITS had to stop enrolling new students for the AUA MBA. But the funny part is at the end of the MBA program (after over 4 years), all the students received an original SIGNATURED certificate from AUA which was not exists at that time. This was discussed in detail in another article which was published on the same news paper dated December 31 st 2006 (Attachment01.2)

*** Then who signed these certificates if AUA was closed 5 years before??!!

Then ITS started another MBA program with another university called American City University (ACU). This is the best fraud happened ever. ACU is just a name and an office in a closed building. The attached article ( Attachment02) about the ACU will give you a better understand about the quality of the university in Wyoming. http://www.cheyenneherald.com/articles.asp (February 27, 2006 articles).

(This was confirmed by the US embassy that there is no such registered university call ACU)

As a response to the article which was published in the Sunday Leader, ITS has put a quarter page advertisement on the November 19th 2006 ( Attachment03). If you notice in the article, you will never find the ACU university logo other than the TROY University logo, which ITS is trying to emphasize.

*** Are they trying to hide something??!!

In the paper article it was mentioned to refer the ACU website for authenticity. What is the point of checking the authenticity of ITS in the ACU web site as the ACU itself is a fake university. ACU London branch was dissolved recently; in fact the web link to the London branch in the ACU web site has been removed.

After all these incidence ACU has changed their website recently. They have replaced the image of the headquarters building with another image. The original image can be seen in the attached document. (Compare Attachment02 with the present web site).

*** How many times a university HEADQUATERS can be shifted from a place to a place per year? Is it a caravan??!!

Misleading students

In the application form (Attachment04) of the ACU MBA program given by ITS, in the first page it is clearly mentioned “Private University Approved under the amended university Act”. Earlier it was mentioned in the UGC web site that ITS is registered to conduct “Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and in Computer Systems Design” programs only. You don’t find these details in the UGC web site any more.

*** Can anybody point a valid reason for using such a statement other than trying to mislead the public??

ITS management commented regarding articles published in the Sunday Leader News paper, saying that this is a personnel issue between ITS and the Press started with not giving advertisement to the news paper.

*** Do you really want to believe that??

Dear members of UGC, this is over to you. As a responsible government regulatory body you have to be more selective and careful when registering these types of degree sellers so called universities.

ITS Education Quality

After the article about ITS which was published in the Sunday Leader (5th November 2006) news paper, certain employees were fired/resigned charging allegations against academic misconducts. More academic misconducts and personnel favors has being done by the MBA course coordinator who is another lecturer employed at ITS. This person has given final results for certain subjects for certain students without even conducting final exams. So far two students have agreed to disclose their names. All details will be published as soon as other students agreed to disclose their details with evidence.

Some other unacceptable qualities and standards of ITS institute can be listed as follows.

1. Submissions of assignments can be done any time (no deadlines)

2. Attendance for lectures are not counted at all

3. If the student is unable to sit for the exam, the exam paper (same paper) will be emailed to the student after few days

4. No entry qualifications for the MBA are required (Students who just did A/L are there)

5. Not even a single printed or photo copied note is distributed by the university

6. Coordination is done by students (No designated coordinator from ITS)

7. No matter what your effort is, the student will receive good results

It is worthwhile to mention that some of the reputed lecturers are not promoting above inferiorities. Some of the lecturers have already discontinued their contracts with ITS due to above mentioned reasons within last couple of months.

Please do understand that THIS IS NOT AN EXECISE OF MUD SLINGING. It’s just an effort of saving your money and time from these types of degree sellers.

Good luck,

The Investigator
